Tim Huisman

Welcome on my portfolio website. My name is Tim Huisman and I'm a 22-year old from the Netherlands. I was born in Rotterdam, but have been living my entire life in Barendrecht. I finished high school (HAVO) in 2006 after which I worked for nearly two years, instead of directly proceeding to another study. After an attempt at becoming an English translator I found my place at the Mediatechnology (formerly Graphic Mediatechnology) study at the Hogeschool Rotterdam in 2008.

Webdeveloper

I've started this education because I was interested in making websites. At the time I was already a webmaster for an AirBuccaneers crew. Creating, tinkering with and improving the website gave me enormous satisfaction. The prospect of making websites, applications and games convinced me it was the right study for me. As a Mediatechnology student I greatly expanded my knowledge in HTML, but also learned other techniques such as PHP, Javascript, Flash, C#/C++ and Java.

The first semester of the third study year consisted of an internship. I did mine at Hoppinger, a company specialising in internetconcepts, webapplications and websites (with open-source CMS's). Some of the work I've done during this period was: research into HTML5, developing websites (mainly front-end) with the Drupal, Joomla and Wordpress CMS, and designing with user interaction in mind. After this internship ended I continued to work for Hoppinger as a parttime webdeveloper.

It was during the internship that I discovered my passion for front-end webdevelopment. I'm especially interested in techniques like HTML5 and CSS3, responsive web design and page speed optimization. I use my website as a playing ground to work with these techniques: where as version two focused on HTML5 and page speed optimization, version three focuses on CSS3 and responsive web design (via flexible layout and media queries).

Some of my work can be found in my web developer portfolio.

PCM stagemaker

In my spare time I'm active as a stagemaker for the cycling game Pro Cycling Manager (since the 2010 edition). The prologue of the Tour of Qatar was my first experiment after being disappointed by the lack of realism in the vanilla version. After receiving positive comments I continued making stages such as the Australian National Championships and the Santos Tour Down Under. Subsequently I sought it closer to home with the Eneco Tour, which has been included in the official 2011 game, and a lot of one-day races all over Europe; France, Italy, Spain, Belgium and of course The Netherlands.

Shortly after the disaster with the eartquake and tsunami on the eleventh of March 2011 in Japan, I made the fictional Cycle for Japan: Fuji-san Challenge in remembrance of its victims. After the release of Pro Cycling Manager 2011 I converted most of my races to be compatible with the new release while also working on some smaller one-day stages.

All the stages I made can be found in my stagemaker portfolio.
